Ginkgo biloba 'Third Cup' originates from the United States of America. We pleased to receive some scion material from our Good friend Charles Hunter. It is one of three Ginkgo’s that exhibit cup shaped leaves in the Nauvoo Collection, located in Nauvoo, Hancock County, Illinois. It originated from seed collected by Stan Tyson from a tree in Lake Park, Springfield, Illinois (which has been subsequently cut down). Being the third up leaved selection in the collection, one can reasonable assume this how the plant got it name.
Description – It produces smaller leaves than normal which are cupped inwards. It grows 30 cm to 40 cm a year. In 10 years, a plant could reasonably be expected to be 3 m high with a spread of 2m – 3m. In 2020 the original tree was 4 m high with a spread of 2.5m.
