Ginkgo biloba 'Pendula Variegata' - There are some references to this cultivar originating from the United States of America, but this cannot be substantiated. It probably originated as mutation of a plant of ‘Pendula’, but the exact source of the plant is not known. The young plant we have in the National Collection of Ginkgo biloba & Cultivars was supplied as scion material from our friend, László Nagy in Hungary.
Description - Ginkgo biloba ‘Pendula Variegata’ has strikingly colourful leaves, whilst the shape is typical of the form the colours can range from green, slightly striped to beautifully striped to white. Obviously, the white leaves will scorch badly in hot sun and are prone to dying, therefore this plant should be grown in dappled light. It is suggested that this plant can eventually reach a height and spread of 3 m to 5 m. Because of the habit it can sometimes be seen for sale as a top worked plant.
