Ginkgo biloba ‘Layin’ Low’ originates from the U.S.A. It is a sport of Ginkgo biloba 'Horizontalis' which is probably female (confusion exists as to what sex Ginkgo biloba ‘Horizontalis actually is, hence the uncertainty). It was noted for sale in 2011 in Handy Nurseries’ catalogue (but this may not be where the cultivar arose). Their nursery is located at 10702 S.E. McCreary Lane, Boring, Oregon 97009, U.S.A.
Description - Ginkgo biloba ‘Layin’ Low’. This cultivar naturally only produces lateral side branches. (note, the one in the picture has been trained up a cane, which alters its habit) The foliage can be variable but tends to resembles that of the parent. In time the plant will form a low growing mound. It reaches a height of 30 to 60 cm with a width of 1 m to 1.5 m. Any shoots that show a tendency to grow upright should be removed.
