(Known in China as ‘Donting Huang’) Ginkgo biloba 'King of Dongting', despite the name it is a female cultivar originating from China, named after the Dongting Mountains. It is a slow growing selection that matures at an early age and will be ready to bear large spherical fruits at approximately 10 years of age. Originally a Chinese selection this variety was introduced into the trade by David Bömer around 1980.
Description - Ginkgo biloba 'King of Dongting' produces strikingly large leaves, many of which are entire, some of which are only slightly slotted. The annual growth rate is 15cm. Expect it to grow up to 10 m high with a spread of approximately 6 m. It can also be grown in containers, which will restrict it size by fifty percent. In the autumn it produces rich autumn colour.
